However, while retinol requires two conversion steps to become its active form, retinoic acid, retinal needs only one. This is why retinal is estimated to convert into retinoic acid more than 10 times faster than retinol. Once converted, retinoic acid helps skin cells produce structural skin components, such as collagen, and supports the skins renewal process. The result is visibly youthful, firmer, smoother, and more even skin.
